“King recommended nonviolent direct action, because it could be used to achieve the same goals as violent acts, without the issue of immorality.  It exposed the issues without physically harming anyone.  King recognized that the unavoidable tension created by nonviolent direct action would produce growth.  The tension would draw attention and peacefully demand for results.”
