Stokley Carmichael

“Stokely Carmichael suggested through his “What We Want” article that African Americans should preserve their communities by supporting each other’s businesses and resources.  This new tactic would make certain that they were helping each other emerge in society, gaining both the wealth and the respect they needed to get what they desired.  They would possess and buy from their own stores which would create an equal and self-sufficient society for African Americans."
