On June 23, 2007, Anthony "Tony" Reed finished Kenya's Lewa SafriCom Marathon to become the first Black in the world to run 26.2-mile marathons on all seven continents, including Antarctica. On June 23, 2007, Anthony "Tony" Reed finished Kenya's Lewa SafriCom Marathon to become the first Black in the world to run 26.2-mile marathons on all seven continents, including Antarctica. Between 1982 and June 23, 2006, He had completed eighty-seven 26.2-mile marathons. His international marathons included
- Europe - Tailwinds Marathon in Denmark on July 27, 2004.
- Oceania - Gold Coast Airport Marathon in Australia on July 3, 2005
- Asia - Great Wall of China Marathon on May 20, 2006
- Antarctica - Antarctica Marathon on February 26, 2007
- South America - Fin del Muno Marathon on March 6, 2007
- Africa - Lewa SafriCom Marathon in Kenya on June 23, 2007
His accomplishment was cover by new media worldwide, including such publications as Runner's World. His journeys were chronicled in his book, entitled Running Shoes Are Cheaper Than Insulin: Marathon Adventures On All Seven Continents.
He's also the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the National Black Marathoners Association. This is a not-for-profit organization that promotes walking and running as a healthy life style.
