the question is based on a statement written by Toni Morrison: "After all, Clinton displays almost every trope of blackness: single-parent household, born poor, working-class, saxophone-playing, McDonald's-and-junk-food-loving boy from Arkansas."

I was talking to my friend about this. She claims that his "hip" response will be looked back as a defining moment in which many black people accepted Obama as truly a black candidate.

it was a dumb debate question.  obama addressed it well. but it was pretty inappropriate for a presidential debate.  save questions like that for david letterman or the tonight show.

We are overly simpliying not only the comment made by Toni Morrison but our response to it. When the position was put forth we should have been offended as opposed to making light of it. We have degraded ourselves to poverty, single parenthood, marijuana. and saxophone playing when our historical foundations support the birth and rise of civilization
